The Story Behind Menturity™

Menturity™ is a word created to describe something many parents and teachers instinctively recognise but rarely have language for: the capability children build when they imagine, communicate, try things, fail safely and try again. In a world where children are increasingly surrounded by screens, instructions and information, many are becoming cognitively stimulated but experientially starved. Menturity™ exists to name and protect that missing part of childhood, where confidence, curiosity and real-world problem-solving grow through doing, not just watching.

The idea grew out of the Space Ranger Fred stories and years of working with children, schools and families. It became clear that the most powerful moments were not just when children were reading, but when they were talking, moving, building, acting things out and explaining their ideas. Menturity™ now underpins the Space Ranger Fred ecosystem and the wider work of Matthew Newnham Productions, providing a simple, human framework for helping children turn imagination into confidence and participation into real-world capability.

Our Perspective

What Makes Menturity™ Different

01.

Childhood is built through experience, not instruction

Menturity™ starts from a simple truth: children grow capability by trying, imagining, moving and explaining, not by passively consuming information. Our work uses story and play to help children turn ideas into action and action into confidence.

02.

Confidence, language and relationships come before results

Rather than measuring children only by outcomes, Menturity™ focuses on the skills that make outcomes possible: emotional safety, social confidence, curiosity and the ability to communicate ideas. We nurture the habits of thinking, trying and explaining that support learning across every subject.

03.

Learning must live in the real world

Menturity™ is shaped through real classrooms, real families and real children. It grows through observation, conversation and shared experience, inviting teachers and parents to be part of an evolving, practical understanding of how children actually learn and grow.
